TABLE 1: The chemicals we found are linked to serious health problems

In a study led by Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, in collaboration with the Environmental Working Group and Commonweal, researchers at two major laboratories found an average of 91 industrial compounds, pollutants, and other chemicals in the blood and urine of nine volunteers, with a total of 167 chemicals found in the group. Like most of us, the people tested do not work with chemicals on the job and do not live near an industrial facility.

Scientists refer to this contamination as a person’s body burden. Of the 167 chemicals found, 76 cause cancer in humans or animals, 94 are toxic to the brain and nervous system, and 79 cause birth defects or abnormal development. The dangers of exposure to these chemicals in combination has never been studied.

KEY TO CONTAMINANTS

icon for PCBs PCBs — Industrial insulators and lubricants. Banned in the U.S. in 1976. Persist for decades in the environment. Accumulate up the food chain, to man. Cause cancer and nervous system problems.

icon for Dioxins Dioxins — Pollutants, by-products of PVC production, industrial bleaching, and incineration. Cause cancer in man. Persist for decades in the environment. Very toxic to developing endocrine (hormone) system.

icon for Furans Furans — Pollutants, by-products of plastics production, industrial bleaching and incineration. Expected to cause cancer in man. Persist for decades in the environment. Very toxic to developing endocrine (hormone) system.

icon for Metals Metals — Lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium — Cause lowered IQ, developmental delays, behavioral disorders and cancer at doses found in the environment. For lead, most exposures are from lead paint. For mercury, most exposures are from canned tuna. For arsenic, most exposures are from arsenic (CCA) treated lumber and contaminated drinking water. For cadmium, sources of exposure include pigments and bakeware.

icon for Organochlorine insecticides Organochlorine insecticides. DDT, chlordane and other pesticides. Largely banned in the U.S. Persist for decades in the environment. Accumulate up the food chain, to man. Cause cancer and numerous reproductive effects.

icon for Organophosphate insecticide metabolites Organophosphate insecticide metabolites — Breakdown products of chlorpyrifos, malathion and others. Potent nervous system toxicants. Most common source of exposure is residues in food. Recently banned for indoor uses.

icon for Phthalates Phthalates — Plasticizers. Cause birth defects of male reproductive organs. Found in a wide range of cosmetic and personal care products. Some phthalates recently banned in Europe.

icon for Volatile and Semi-volatile organic chemicals Volatile and Semi-volatile organic chemicals. — Industrial solvents and gasoline ingredients like xylene and ethyl benzene. Toxic to nervous system, some heavily used SVOCs (benzene) cause cancer.

Symptoms of toxicity:

bullet

fatigue, drowsiness, nausea,

bullet

headaches

bullet

rashes

bullet

joint aches

bullet

hormonal imbalances

bullet

dizziness, difficulty concentrating

bullet

mental and emotional issues

bullet

allergies

bullet

other chronic illness or a long term health issue

Absence of symptoms of toxicity:

bullet

disappearance of reactions/symptoms

bullet

feeling of being relaxed and at ease, increased tolerance to stress

bullet

increased energy an vitality

bullet

better wound healing, increased resistance to colds and other infections

bullet

increased receptivity to other therapies that did not "work": psychotherapy, acupuncture, allergy therapy, herbal therapy, etc.

Who should consider undergoing detoxification:

bulletyou have any of the above mentioned symptoms
bullet

you have used pharmaceutical medication for a prolonged period of time

bullet

you have used recreational drugs such as marihuana, etc. and/or you have been a smoker

bullet

you have lived in polluted environments, have had a poor diet and/or have been under lots of stress

bullet

you have frequent emotional and ups and downs and pains and aches

The toxicity problem

In the last several decades, our food supply, drinking water, air, and soil have become increasingly contaminated with toxic chemicals. In addition, excessive use of additives in foods, alcohol, caffeine, artificial sweeteners is widespread. Over-the counter and prescription drugs add more stress to the natural detoxifying mechanisms in our bodies. The toxins stay in our bodies and manifest over period of time in non-specific conditions such as chronic fatigue, headaches, allergies, autoimmune diseases (arthritis, multiple sclerosis, lupus, etc.), sinus problems. In addition, stress and frequent negative emotions such as fear, sadness, and anger cause deep tissues in our body to contract and therefore keep toxic material trapped in the tissues.

Our bodies try to detoxify naturally thru cough, diarrhea, sweat, fever, rashes, etc. If we suppress these first signs of toxin elimination with medication, our young bodies may take up the burden but sooner of later, the defensive system weakens and the process of toxic accumulation sets in; degenerative processes that lead to cancer follow.

Peoples' susceptibility to toxins depends on several factors: the amount to which they are exposed, frequency of exposure, the state of their elimination organs and tolerance to substances.

The majority of detoxification and elimination is carried out by these systems: respiratory, digestive, urinary, and dermal.

Detoxification process

Fasting and cleansing diets, saunas, and exercise are effective to certain degree. Many times, special homeopathic and herbal preparations are needed to release specific deep-seated toxins.

In order to avoid resettling of toxins in the same or different tissues, a systematic approach has to be applied. This includes: cellular and matrix support and nutritional enzymatic support in a preparatory stage, secondary gentle drainage while supporting the organs (liver, lungs, kidneys, etc.).

Homotoxicology is the one of the best  modalities for cellular and tissue cleansing, helping to rid the body of dangerous chemicals.

Tobacco Detox

Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances. Acupuncture has been considered one of the best treatment modality for addictions; it helps to rid the body of nicotine very fast. The following is a successful protocol that I have used to help people with a cigarette habit:

Cigarette smoking leads to many health conditions: lung deterioration=emphysema, cancer, lowered sexual drive/impotence, high blood pressure, asthma, and others.

bullet

ear acupuncture: the NADA protocol--acupuncture in the clinic and "take home" seeds are placed on specific points--besides stimulating the organs of detoxification, it helps to calm the nervous system and stops cravings

bullet

homeopathic remedies: combination of remedies are used to deal with all the withdrawal side effects

bullet

herbal remedies: to reduce craving and to prevent weight gain

The two modalities are applied in therapy sessions (4-10x) depending on the degree--with the patient continuing therapy at home. It is a fast and economical way for stopping smoking.

One session costs $50 (acupuncture) plus homeopathic remedies ($25), herbs ($25). Special rate for financially challenged is available.
