Permanent weight loss requires an earnest commitment to a healthier lifestyle,
as well as thorough investigation of underlying cause(s) of one's excess weight.
Excess weight can result from a variety of causes, including diet high on
carbohydrates, lack of exercise, thyroid imbalance, insulin and adrenal
problems, water retention, emotional and other health problems.
There are several popular approaches to weight management that promise fast
weight loss. One is the use of diuretic herbs or diuretic drugs to reduce water
retention. Another is the use of lipotropic vitamins or drugs that bind to
cholesterol and fats to prevent their absorption. A third approach is the use of
appetite suppressants. Unfortunately, none of these weight loss methods lead to
permanent weight loss; on the contrary, symptomatic treatment of weight loss as
described above can lead to more health imbalances. For example, loosing weight
too quickly can suppress the immune system and put strain on organs such as the
liver and kidneys. Some weight loss products focus on thermogenesis (the body's
natural way of burning calories). These products contain ephedrine which speeds
up metabolism but also raises blood pressure and increases heart rate, which can
be dangerous for some individuals.
Over the counter weight loss supplements could be dangerous to your health. Consult an expert in weight loss. To schedule an appointment or to talk about your issue, call 415-420-3750
